As storytelling is ultimately about creativity, and as creativity is becoming a critical issue in the corporate world, Strategic Documentaries decided to some online interviews with professional creatives to gain their insights about the topic.
Here jazz guitarist Joshua Breakstone discusses the importance of play to the creative process.
“I love to play,” says Breakstone at the opening of the video. “Playing with ideas and juxtapositions, playing with how things are put together. You get that excitement that you’ve found something.”
He goes on to discuss the importance of staying open to “childish, elemental feelings.”
“Play is escapism,” he adds. “It’s avoidance of the mass message, finding value in your own expression and making contact with people on a deep level.”
Like our online interview with composer Chris McHale, in which he discusses the importance of decision-making to the creative process, this video is used in seminars and workshops by The Creative Organization, our sister company that helps organizations think and act more creatively.
